Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley resonates with the live music offerings of the fourth Valley Jazz Festival.
Over 250 artists in 52 bands perform a gamut of jazz styles during the six-day festival which features four world premiere commissioned works by Queensland Jazz composers Andrew Garton, Rafael Karlen, Toby Wren and New York based Laura Kahle.
Vince Jones opens festivities announcing the 2009 Jazz Vocal Award winner at 6pm on 12 May at Brisbane Powerhouse, followed by Elixir, featuring Katie Noonan, master guitarist Stephen Magnusson and local sax legend Isaac Hurren.
The hottest jazz stars on the Australian scene perform at the Judith Wright Centre, including Julien Wilson, The Subterraneans and The View From Madeleine’s Couch.
Catch masses of free performances by local and interstate jazz greats at the Valley Mall Rotunda, Queen Street Mall, the Bowery, Glass Bar, Kaliber, Press Club, Ric’s Bar, Royal George Hotel and Zuri.
